Just got an email about an Iberia Avios sale on Iberia metal: 25% off all routes. Tickets must be booked by April 11 for Spring (March 27-June 15) or Fall (October 1-15 December).
Availability looks wide open in Economy and Premium Economy, but much more limited in Business. I even see some tickets left over Thanksgiving weekend. Boston or New York to Madrid prices out at 25,500 Avios plus 164 Euro in taxes.
Don’t Fret about Iberia Economy
We flew JFK-MAD on Iberia last Spring break on our way to Gran Canaria. Iberia was one of the most comfortable coach experiences we’ve had. A seven hour flight was definitely doable. The Airbus A340 had plenty of legroom and brand new entertainment systems on each seat. I would definitely consider the same flight again and am planning to shop this sale.
Be sure to check cash prices before booking as fare sales have been really competitive lately. If you’re not looking over a holiday such as Thanksgiving you might do better with cash pricing.
Iberia is an American Express transfer partner but you’ll be better off using Chase Ultimate Rewards (transferred to BA first) if you have them. BA Avios freely transfer to Iberia Avios. You have to have an Iberia account already open for 30 days before you can transfer points from BA so stick with AMEX if you don’t have an Iberia account set up yet. Avios lets you pay on a sliding scale up to 334 Euro and 6400 Avios which may be a better deal if you don’t have Avios already in your account.
