One aspect of visiting Las Vegas with Kids often gets overlooked: the early mornings. Between the 3 hour East Coast jet lag and their normal wake-up times, the Deal Kids were often raring to go at sun-up. Vegas may never sleep, but parts of the city are downright grumpy in the early AM!
This trip I was determined to keep the Deal Kids doing more than mocking PBS Kids before 9AM. One discovery was the Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo Hotel. It’s open 24 hours and early morning is the best time to get your birding in before it gets ungodly hot.
I used the Valet Parking (remember, valet is free at pretty much every Casino: just give $1 to the driver) to arrive with the kids about 8AM. 30 minutes is plenty of time to explore the garden, see the pools and wedding chapel (and for Mom, visit the Bugsy Siegel statue in the back). At 8:30AM, a trainer comes out and spends 15 minutes or so talking about the pelicans, flamingos, and other assorted birds in the garden. I appreciated the nod to history with the pelicans being named Bugsy and Virginia, and the kids got a kick out of the birds swallowing their breakfast whole. By 9AM we were ready to get back to our hotel pool.
Next year the Deal Kids want to add the Flamingo Beach Club pool, with it’s waterslides, to the 2015 Camp Mom Pool Tour: Return of the Deal Kids. I’m happy to do so as Caesars Hotels and SPG are now partnered so I’ll be able to earn Starwood points!
Have you visited the Flamingo? What are your favorite early morning kids things to do in Vegas?
