The Deal Mommy

Club Carlson Steal! Deal Mommy Fave The Martinique NYC gives 10k bonus points per night for $20

The Deal Kids enjoy the view from Breakfast.

Today I want to flag an amazing deal from my go to hotel in New York City when folks ask for a recommendation.  The Radisson Martinique on Broadway , right across the street from Macy’s on Herald Square, strikes just the right balance between value and luxury.

The Martinique is on the National Historic Registry but recently remodeled so the rooms are spotless. “Historic” is actually an undersell: the hotel was designed by the same architects that built the Empire State Building!  Walking into the hotel feels like walking into an episode of “Boardwalk Empire”. I especially enjoy the details such as the original mosaic flooring and the stainless steel elevators.

The restaurant in the front is fine (and has a cliche NYC view as you can see above), but I much preferred the boutique French Cafe in the back that serves breakfast dishes such as Duck Confit and Croque Madame. It’s so Parisian I was shocked when the staff was nice to me!

Their club wasn’t open the last time I was there, so I’m looking forward to going back soon now that it’s been newly remodeled as it should have some great views being so near the Empire State Building.

Today I got an email directly from the hotel mentioning a “Mega Points” rate. I did some browsing on
Radisson Martinique’s
website and by selecting “best available” then “all rates” and scrolling down, I was able to see the “mega points” rate for $20 over best available for every single night on their calendar in the next year! What makes the rate so amazing is that the 10K bonus points are PER NIGHT, NOT PER STAY. I basically count the deal as a $33 discount every night.

Here’s why: The purchase price of Club Carlson points is .7 cents each. I value them more like .5 based on how I redeem them (as in I’ll redeem 20,000 for a $100 room on average), so in effect those 10,000 points for $20 are a total steal. Not only that, You still earn the regular 20 points per dollar and the gold points 50% bonus all on the $20 higher rate (an extra 600 points or $3). Add in the 2000 online booking bonus, and it’s cha-ching!

So, to recap, The Martinique is definitely a DO for paid stays in NYC, especially with all of the amazing points promos going around! I’d skip it for an awards stay at 50k points and use the points elsewhere…unless you have the credit card (below). At 25k, it’s a steal!

To recap, here’s what I have to say about the card:
Club Carlson’s credit card (page 3) gets an A+ from me and we have one not only for the gold status, 85,000 bonus points and 40k points annually, but for the ability to get a free points night every time you redeem one…potentially a HUGE benefit. We got 57k points back last year on the free night benefit in Belfast.

Spring 2014’s Club Carlson promotion is very simple: stay three nights by April 13, get 38k points. I like night promotions vs. stay promotions as you can knock it out in one hotel. Register here. While it’s no where near as good as the “stay once, get 50k promotions” of last year, it’s still pretty good.

What do I do with all of these points?

Here are some ideas, sorted by point level:

Level 1 (9K): Radisson Hotel Indianapolis Airport

Level 2 (15K): “Country Inns & Suites By Carlson, Orlando Universal, Florida”

Level 3 (28k): Radisson Decapolis Hotel Panama City Deal Mommy Tested

Level 4 (38K): Radisson Blu Belfast Deal Mommy Tested

Level 5 (44K): Radisson Warwick Hotel – Philadelphia

Level 6 (50K): Radisson Blu-Champs-Elysses Paris
