Review: Thai Airways 787-8 Business Class – Bangkok to Denpasar-Bali

As I mentioned in the last installment, we ended up having a remote gate, which ended up being a rather long bus ride, to our 787-8.

Overall, the aircraft was wonderful. The business class seat happened to be a variant of the B/E Aerospace 2/2/2 business class seat that I’ve come to loathe.

It’s not that I don’t appreciate a lay flat, or that I’m an “everyone should have aisle access” snob – although everyone should in business. It’s because I just can’t get both feet in the foot-cubby comfortably. Luckily, on a 4 hour flight, that wasn’t such a big deal.

Otherwise, I found the seat to be very comfortable. The meal options were two seafood, and one chicken. As you could imagine, I chose the chicken, which was pretty reasonable.

My wife had one of the seafood options, “thermidor” came to mind, but I suspect it wasn’t the Lobster Thermidor that she was expecting on Singapore Airlines’ Suites Class later in the trip.

The In Flight Entertainment (IFE) was good. I ended up watching Burnt with Bradley Cooper. The movie was good, I think Cooper is becoming a more well rounded actor, although the movie sure did make me hungry. It’s about a chef who went through some dark times, but was making a comeback, and had the goal of getting his third Michelin Star.

Overall, the four hour flight was pretty uneventful, and for a moment, I thought that the B/E Aerospace seat wasn’t too bad. Of course, I’d rather not fly in one  for an ultra-long-haul (like United is flying from SFO-SIN), but, for a 4 hour flight, it is probably as good as it gets.
