Review: Singapore Airlines A380 Suites Class Singapore to Hong Kong





After a short time in the Singapore Airlines Private Room, it was time to board our flight. Singapore’s Changi Airport has security screening at the gate, so you need to get there a bit earlier, or so we thought. We ended up clearing security faster than I can remember ever clearing it before. It’s amazing what can happen when checkpoints are fully staffed, even when trying to get multiple A380’s worth of passengers through in a short period of time.

Singapore’s A380 has First Class Suites Class on the main deck, so you enter via Door 1L. The cabin itself is really quite easy on the eyes. nice “earthy” tones, very comfortable seats, and of course, excellent service. Before we even made it to our seats, we must have interacted with 2 or 3 members of the crew, seeing that we were excited for our flight, they were happy to take photos and let us take photos of the great seats, and the cabin.

Menu’s were on display at our seats in nice leather folios, which was a nice touch.

There were noise cancelling headphones available in the seat.

And plenty of power options.

Singapore is one of the few airlines that I’ve flown where I’ve noticed a small in-suite garbage receptacle. Its a nice idea, because you’re always going to have something you want to get rid of, and just leaving it sitting on the armrest seems awkward.

Soon after we had gotten situated, we were offered pre departure beverages. Singapore is the only airline I know of, that offers both Krug and Dom Perignon in First Class.Usually airlines just offer one, but Singapore allows you to have a bit of a tasting, should that pique your taste buds–it certainly piqued my taste buds!

Of course, after the champagne, my preference was for Singapore’s namesake cocktail, the Singapore sling

On the ottoman were additional pillows and blankets, even provided for our short 3 hour flight to Hong Kong.

There’s no overhead storage in the cabin for your carry-on, but there is storage under your ottoman, you can see my wife’s Briggs and Riley carry-on bag fits nicely. That little bag to the right of her suitcase was a nice touch from one of the Singapore Girls, who brought my wife a small outer bag to put her purse in, so it wasn’t sitting on the deck.

The In Flight Entertainment (IFE) is pretty substantive. A good selection, and as you can see below, a sizeable screen.

About halfway through the flight, my wife requested her bed to be made up. I really should have done the same, so that we would have a double bed in the sky, but alas I was too enthralled with a movie.

Meal Service:

Despite the early morning flight, both my wife and I had chosen the “book the cook” option, so we had distinctively un-breakfast like entrees.

Like I said, I had a primarily non-breakfasty meal. But the steak was wonderful.

There was a wonderful sorbet, which complimented my bottomless Singapore Sling quite nicely.

And of course, My wife had a Lobster Thermido, which she seemed to enjoy, I don’t even think she offered me a bite, come to think of it.

Conclusion

Overall, we were really happy to have spent the extra miles to fly Singapore’s A380 in Suites class again. It was a short flight, we would have been more than happy for them to have circled Hong Kong for a bit, and might have enjoyed some more bubbly. But really, the service on Singapore is impeccable.
