This is the most generous retention offer I’ve ever encountered.
Today I called Amex to see if there was any retention offer on my Aspire card, since I barely used the benefits this year. There was a marginal offer of 10k Hilton points with no spend required, which I value at around $50 now that Hilton improved points value. But that’s not why I’m writing this post.
I asked if there was any offer on my other cards. I had opened a Platinum card last month with the now-famous 100k bonus and 10x earning on grocery and gas. On this very card, the agent found a “retention” offer for 50,000 Amex Membership Reward points or $500, with no spend required. The only stipulation was that I keep the card for a year from today’s call. Nowadays you shouldn’t cancel or downgrade your card within a year of approval or you risk losing the signup bonus. This offer means I must keep the card for one more month – a condition I happily accepted.
There had been recent reports of this generous offer; what’s interesting is that it can be available on new cards. Feel free to check if you have it on your cards.
There was no retention offer on my no-annual fee cards.

No dice for me.
I assume you took the points? Not the cash!

I took the points, but would have been equally happy with cash. I’m 95% sure I won’t use the points in the first half of next year, and I don’t have the Schwab Plat to cash out.

Gotta love retention calls, thank you for posting. I got $500 offer, no points as an option. I took it and said ‘thank you’. My 1st statement closed a few weeks ago. Mrs. PedroNY’s 1st statement has not closed, and no retention offered, so she’ll try again when it does.
Cheers,
PedroNY

Bravo. I only wish I could generate the 100k/10x + 30k referral for the rest of my family, but alas I’m stuck with the 60k referral.
PedroNY says
Try generating it from different cards. I got one from Delta Platinum and from Biz Platinum, but not from Personal Platinum. I used a new, clean cache browser. Good luck.
Cheers,

YMMV. Nayara (chat clerk) is a tough gatekeeper!
