Why did I get global entry?

My wife and I wanted to get Prechek so we signed up for global entry for a few dollars more. Turns out we should have gotten Nexus (we live on the Canada/US border)for less and had all three programs but that will happen next time in 5 yrs.

Back to my question. I have used Global entry twice now, both times getting the X receipt. This last time, I was escorted into a secondary waiting room where I had to wait 10 mins for a border person to get my passport from the waiting slot. I was called and the agent said bring all my belongings I can go. He handed me my passport/boarding pass and said " Aren't you glad you have Global Entry?". I replied "I'm trying to figure out why I got it". He smiled and said have a good weekend.

What is there in the system that is causing this? Anyone have thoughts/ideas?..

Sounds like a random screening thing, and you may have actually gotten out quicker because of global entry.

Next time, consider getting a credit card that reimburses the global entry fee so that way it doesn't come out of your pocket. The Amex plat gives a global entry credit.

Another card for consideration is The Citi Prestige Card which also reimburses the global entry fee.
