Using gift cards in airline points portals...

I have a Lands' End gift card which I'm planning to use shortly. When I've tried to use Delta or Alaska Airlines portals to get some points on the purchase, their T&C say no points issues when paying with gift cards.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there any way to get points/cb/etc benefit from purchase with gift card?
