As most know, UA lets your pay Saver Business class award miles for a Saver Economy fare and be placed at the top of the waitlist to be upgraded. Google United waitlisting business award for more info.
I've done this only once last June and it worked fairly well - wasn't automatically upgraded but called in and it was processed.
My question is for anyone who has attempted it on the P.S. JFK-LAX/SFO soon to be EWR-LAX/SFO flights. There are usually a good amount of saver economy seats available on those flights and was wondering what my chances of being upgraded using this method would be. I don't usually fly United so anyone with experience on getting upgraded as an elite would be helpful, since as I understand this method places you ahead of all elites in the upgrade queue.
My guess is that chances are fairly good since there are between 16 and 28 first seats on each flight -- if so it would be an ideal way to help waste all these UR points so readily available
