TSA and Pre check

If I have pre check but I'm flying out of an airport that doesn't have a body scanner and because of artificial hip I must get a pat down--do other pre-check privileges apply to me? Or is this a question only a stickler TSA agent can answer for me. I almost always check bags and this is something new for me.

We usually get precheck. When Bonnie tells them she has an artificial leg they escort her to the front of the regular line and leave the bags in precheck with me. They always have to do tests on her leg because it's metal and hollow and scary. IDK how it would work out if she were flying on her own.

TSA Pre is always implemented oddly. I've gone through SJC when they are doing the full Pre advantage with "keep shoes on, liquids in bag, laptop in bag, jacket on" and also times where all you could only keep "jacket and shoes on" but had to do normal security measures for liquids and laptop.

Sometimes we go through and get wander, other times we get escorted to the full body scanner. And sometimes we get fussed at for using pre-check. Still we always start there if the line is short.

I was declined TSA from LAX by AA and was told that i will need to call the airline prior to check in to be eligible and online addition to your account will not do.

I can't see any reason why you wouldn't get the regular <whatever version of pre-check they are randomly making up> privileges, even though they have to pat you down after you fail the metal detector.

But honestly, if I had an implant, I might avoid precheck in favor of the body scanners. It seems like every time you get pre-check, you would have to deal with TSA making a random decision about how or whether to molest you. :( I opt out of body scanners when I don't get pre-check, but that's partially because it gives me control over what happens to my body.

When you get pre-check in an airport with both metal detectors and body scanners, what do they do? Or were you just randomly granted precheck and this is your first experience?

Doesn't matter whether I have pre-check (I rely on getting it free and it's worked so far) or not -sorry my post wasn't more clear-- I set off the metal detectors and I have to make a decision. Question was in advance of second time at my local airport where they don't have scanner and I couldn't remember whether I got pre-check privileges "keep shoes on, liquids in bag, laptop in bag, jacket on" or not the first time. I did get these privileges with my recent trip, agent would not answer the question whether it would always be the case. My main reason involves checking vs. not checking bags and how to pack liquids.

Even with pre-check I've always had to go through metal detector. Generally what happens -if the airport has scanner *I* get to choose how I want to be molested--scanner or pat down. If airport doesn't have scanner I tell first agent about implant and get escorted to front of line, scanner (I think so it tells them what areas to give extra special pat down) and then to pat down. The pat downs in my local airport are so thorough that if I were gay I'd expect an engagement ring at the end.;)
