TravelCon II: Las Vegas
After a successful debut with TravelCon OC, we're excited to announce TravelCon II: Las Vegas, another miles/points event that will take place on November 7th, 2015 at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip!

Like last time, the goal of the program is not only to teach through sessions with speakers informing the audience, but also to encourage attendees to connect with each other to create groups of people to bounce ideas off of. The last time we did this event we stressed the social aspect of this points/miles hobby and we received a ton of positive feedback. We're planning to do the same here!

We've confirmed several speakers and are planning to add more. The speakers represent a diverse group of travel and loyalty program experts, some speaking on contrarian views, to ensure attendees receive the most benefit from this event:

9:00 - 9:30 Registration
9:30 - 9:45 Morning Meet & Greet with other Attendees
9:45 - 10:00 Get Situated, Opening Remarks
10:00 - 11:00 Julian - The Devil's Advocate
11:00 - 11:45 Shawn Coomer - Miles to Memories
11:45 - 1:00 Lunch
1:00 - 2:00 Greg - Frequent Miler (Manufactured Spending)
2:00 - 2:45 Matt - Saverocity (TBD)
2:45 - 3:00 Break
3:00 - 3:45 Scott - Travel Codex (TBD)
3:45 - 4:45 Tahsir - Bengali Miles Guru)/Amol - Points to Point B (Manufactured Spending)
4:45 - 5:00 Closing Remarks / Breakout Sessions
6:00 - ??? HAVE FUN IN VEGAS!

Sessions will be structured such that each speaker will discuss a particular topic in depth, including manufactured spending, airline award bookings, hotel programs, and more, followed by Q&A. The breakout sessions can serve as more opportunity for Q&A or for whatever else you want.

Tickets are on sale NOW but will increase in price in the coming weeks. We've kept prices at the same rates as we had for TravelCon OC:

-Early-bird special: $129 per person.
-Regular sale price: $139 per person.
-Last chance: $149 per person.

All tickets will include lunch on the day of the event.

There are no special hotel rates that we've negotiated, but if you were at TravelCon OC and attended Omar's (Travel Summary) presentation, you'll know of a FANTASTIC way to book rooms for the weekend! We will also send out additional information to confirmed attendees on how to book discounted rates. As is the case in most of Las Vegas, self-parking is free. Plan ahead as it's generally a bit of a walk from parking to the meeting rooms.

Due to room restrictions, there are only 100 tickets for sale, so make sure you get yours quickly before prices increase. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Note that tickets are not refundable, but are transferable.

Note from Matt--

I built this area to help you guys connect when there. Meetups around the official day are a great way to put a name to a face and help develop relationships. I'll be arriving on Friday and departing Sunday morning, my own plans aren't quite set yet, but I'm keen to watch a show on the Friday.

I missed the trick as I rocked up fashionably late. What I'm doing for my room isn't appropriate for replication.

OK so as of today (it has changed a few times already) here's my loose plan:

Arrive on Friday
Depart Sunday morning
Staying at Aria
I'll probably be doing dinner at Aria at least one of the nights as I need to spend money there.
Show on Friday night
Up for drinks on Friday, Saturday

I'm thinking to head to the discount ticket booth to see if they have anything good on sale... Absinthe or a Cirque show, or whatever is cool.

I arrive Friday 3:45PM Fri on WN and depart 7:55PM Sun on AS. Staying at Hampton Inn Tropicana which is easy walking distance to the MonteCarlo and only 20K points a night. No resort fees, airport shuttle and free breakfast!

Definitely up for dinner Friday or drinks/show Friday night. Ditto Sat. night.

Also up for brunch Sunday and/or exploring Vegas.

Have access to Centurion (can guest in folks but can't remember how many - maybe 2?) if anyone wants to hang there Sunday late afternoon before boarding flights home.

I haven't been that efficient with spending points
Arriving 8pm Fri, out 11am Sun (Virgin America, 30k MR)
Staying at the Monte Carlo (30k Hyatt points from Chase)

If anyone needs a ride I'l have a car.

Checked out some activities on Chase UR for ideas. Champagne night helicopter ride over the strip looks cool for 7357 UR points. Spent my Arrival+ sign-up bonus on helicopter ride to the floor of the Grand Canyon with a champagne lunch in the Canyon & limo to & from my hotel last time in Vegas (35,707 UR points or $446.34) Definitely one of the cooler things I've done. Also thinking about Beatles Love Cirque either Friday or Saturday for 10,291 UR points. Flying in @ noon on Friday & out on Sunday red-eye. Grabbed a convertible from Alamo for 3 days for $101 all in after using a Discover cert. Thinking about 2 nights at the Cosmo to get rid of 90k Marriott points unless I'm missing some secret sauce... Anyone down for some fun-let me know!

Sounds awesome. You are bold. I'm going to save my Arrival cash for the bar!

I was looking at the Beatles/Cirque show and there seem to be tix on discount Vegas sites like SmarterVegas but I can't seem to add tix to an order. I put in an email request for assistance and may call them tomorrow. I was looking at the 9:30pm Friday show as an option. There are other shows too including Absinthe.

Also linked my Hyatt status to MLife although since I am staying at a Hilton on points and don't gamble, it won't be much use, other than skipping buffet lines and perhaps a few discounts. Still probably worth doing in case there are savings to be had.

Love is an excellent show - wife thought it was so good that she cried through most of it. I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but thought it fantastic. That trip I had bought front row center tickets to O and we just picked these up on a whim, it was far superior, even without the good seats.

I think it might be best to 'gamble' a bit and buy tickets on the day, there is a risk that they will be sold out, but I'm pretty sure it'll be fine. There are many tix4tonite booths on the strip where you can buy them.

As I'm getting in earlier I don't mind running over there and getting a photo of what is available and buying for the ticket for people who haven't arrived yet.

I just bought my ticket and excited to join you all!

I missed the last three conferences I had hoped to attend due to lack of childcare, but decided to just jump the gun and make it happen this time. I've been MS'ing in my own little bubble, trying to up my game on my own, and have been really to connect in person with some real people.

I'll be in town from Thursday to Sunday with my five-year old girl, so probably less likely to make late night things, but hoping to find times to meet and connect nonetheless.

@ElainePDX - We fly out Sunday evening and might swing by the Centurion lounge as well before our flight. I was sad to miss the women's meetups at the PHX event last year, and would love to say hello and share experiences and perhaps connect in with that group if is still active out there.

Also, if anyone else is crazy enough to bring kids with them and would like to share a babysitter during the conference, or is local with kids and might be able to recommend one please PM me!

@skydancer - I'm not planning any meet-up for the women's group in Vegas. As for babysitting, you might contact Shawn Coomer who blogs at MilesToMemories and also writes pieces for FrequentMiler. He lives in Vegas and has little kids.

I'm pretty hyped for this.

I haven't decided on any activities there, but I'm down for whatever. Might do what Matt is and wait till the day of for any shows. Anyone, feel free to post what you are doing.

As usual...will be booking stuff last min. Prob will do MGM or Monte Carlo or Aria...still deciding if I want to part with my UR or use cash/points.

What are some good places to gamble (I know its Vegas, but there has to be some preferences from those who have been there a bit)...any tips on places to go that would be good to game comps at Matt?

If you really are the best friend then you'll bring the couple along and teach them how to book a once in a lifetime honey moon for free. And then they can do it again. and again. and again.... ;)

Gaming comps is a tricky thing.. I'm going to have a go at doing so when I am there, but it is so convoluted, and with such a risk element involved that I wouldn't encourage others to.

Just got an email from Club Cirque as follows:

The Beatles LOVE 2015 BOGO $15 Tickets starting at $59.50
Venue: LOVE Theatre at Mirage

7:00 PM & 9:30 PM

Born from a personal friendship and mutual admiration between the late George Harrison and Cirque founder Guy Laliberté, LOVE brings the magic of Cirque du Soleil together with the spirit and passion behind the most beloved rock group of all time to create a vivid, intimate and powerful entertainment experience.

It's not quite a good as it sounds because of this (my bolding):

* Price varies depending on show, date and time and does not include tax and fees. Valid through December 17, 2015. Blackout dates apply. Valid on select seating areas and categories. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Management reserves all rights. Subject to availability. Some restrictions apply.

There do appear to be tickets for both the Friday and Saturday night shows.

You can click on the first link in the email that was sent out to attendees. At the bottom of the page is a banner for BOGO tickets to Love and two other shows. I was able to pick up a front row ticket to Friday's 9:30 show for $97.43 all-in. There were upper level seats for $69.63 all-in for the same show, along with other tickets up front for the same price that I paid. You're able to see the location of the seats before you finalize the purchase.

So you used the BOGO link but bought just one ticket? What section did you select?

If I do buy tix ahead and I am leaning towards that, I'll do the later show since I arrive at 4Pm and I want to allow time for a travel delay, getting to my hotel, drinks or dinner perhaps with other attendees, and other such stuff. Maybe nap on the plane? ;)

I was playing around with all of the different options. When I chose price level BZ for $168.95, the next screen showed the seating chart and the exact seats, with the discounted price ($97.43)reflected. As soon as I realized that it was front row, I grabbed it. The ticket was emailed immediately after payment. I just checked again and it chose a 2nd row seat for price level BZ, so there should be good seats left for the same show. Good luck!

sorry, I'm not a big twitter user. What would I need to do on twitter?
You use it to follow the #travelcon2 and also to follow the organizers of this, Tahsir and Omar. If you do that, you can ask them where people are at when you need... It's kinda like being able to SMS them without having their number.
