The collection includes objects used by early American aviators, including a 1903 Farman Handley-Page biplane, a 1905 Voisin biplane, a 1907 Wright Flyer III, and a 1910 Deperdussin autogyro.

The Udvar-Hazy Center has seven exhibition galleries that display over 120 aircraft, spacecraft, and related artifacts from the National Air and Space Museum’s collection. The centerpiece of the museum is the Space Shuttle Discovery orbiter replica that was used during the space shuttle program. A number of other Space Shuttle orbiters are also on display, including Enterprise (which was used for test flights), Columbia (which was lost during reentry), Challenger (which was destroyed during launch), Discovery (the first orbiter to be launched) and Atlantis (the final orbiter to be launched).

The facility consists of several other buildings: the “Learning Lab”, a space designed especially for school groups, where kids can explore space science through hands-on activities; the “Bigelow Aerospace Operations Center”, where visitors can experience zero gravity; an outdoor pavilion, which hosts events such as film screenings; and various other spaces including restrooms, gift shops, cafes, a café bar, and an auditorium that hosts lectures and events as well as performances by visiting celebrities.
