Tokyo to san diego

Trying to find a flight back to San Diego from Tokyo on either January 2 or 3 in economy using AA, UA, BA points. Not having any luck at all.

I hate to say this, but you are looking at one of the busiest weekends of the year without much lead time. You can keep checking and hope for last minute availability, but I wouldn't set high expectation. Last year I was looking for (SYD|MEL)-SIN for the same weekend, albeit in J, and found no last min availability even though there are many airlines serving this route.

The JL direct flight is very nice. It almost always has space available, especially in Y. So if it is full, you might be in tough shape. I took a quick look at SFO, LAX, YVR, SAN, and DFW and see nothing either on AA or JL.

I checked UA. The first date economy saver is available to either LAX or SAN is Jan 9. A standard award is available on Jan 2 for 75K plus tax.
