This area is to help drop the cost of a product or service. Buying the things you want, at a price far below retail is an underlying principle of Saverocity, and as such, MSRP has been born:

Maximizing Savings on Retail Purchases

In order to make this effective, when you find a product that you want to list, ensure that you include its Produt Number/SKU so that we can find the exact match when comparing sites and prices.

Example Template Post:
  • Product Name: Samsung 75inch TV
  • Product Number: Un75h6350
  • Recommended Price: (the real MSRP)
  • Current Best Price: (the price you got it down to already using your own skills)
Credit to @Jawa for the naming the Forum!

Another thing to remember is price match. Is there any website that works in the background and emails us if a lower price is found? Usually price match works for 1 or 2 weeks after purchase.

A few more ideas that popped into my head. Many credit cards from the biggies, Discover, Citi, and Mastercard, have price protection as well. Say you buy your tv and pay $XX. Within X amount of time if the price drops, you can file a claim for the difference.
Here are a few sites to look at http://www.mastercard.us/card-benefits/index.html, https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/help-center/faqs/price-protection.html, and https://www.citipricerewind.com. There are restrictions and limits, of course, but better than nothing.

The other "guys" offer purchase protection, not quite the same thing, but coverage no less for theft, damage, etc.

There's http://paribus.co/ which monitors your email and files price match claims with a whole list of websites. You just have to be comfortable with them accessing your email.

This is a great topic! I am expecting my first child, and my wife has a long list of things for us to buy. I have already replicated some of the tactics used here to obtain substantially lower prices. Cheers!

Great point. I always use my Amex card to protect and extend warranties.

Anybody slog through the Amex, Citi etc protect/ extend warranty info to see if you have to make the entire purchase with that cc (i.e. Can you use GC for most, then use cc for some and still get protection? I'm sure I already know the answer .

I use Amex to extend, too. But first get the best possible price.

For large appliances, I'm particularly fond of warehouse sales, where things that are imperfect, but still have a "new" warranty, are sold for much less.

My LG French door frig has a dent. On the bottom, at the back, where it's tucked in between the pantry and a set of cupboards. The rest is pristine, and it was one of the two models that I was hoping to find at a local appliance dealer's warehouse sale. For 42% off the retail price (the lowest I'd seen online was half that percentage, I'm more than happy to have a flaw that is invisible without pulling the entire refrigerator out.

Along with the extra year warranty from Amex.
