Was just denied any retention extras on my Club Carlson card call. Fee posted a week or so again but I just noticed. I'm considering calling again OR emailing with some gripes. Doing the math, the $75 for 40k ... seems ok; it's at least one free night somewhere medium, perhaps part of a second night at a cheapo place. But using a NW Buxx card set, 40k would cost me $32 in fees (plus time and lost capacity for other things).

CSR did "look at my records" and apparently I wasn't impressive. I've been doing an average of 1k a month via my Buxx card (never even amounts). Perhaps that makes me a poor customer?

So far I've convinced myself to keep the card. But I have 15 more days to decide (payment is due). And I still may argue. I'm just not sure how to value CC points now without the second night free deal.

Oh, BTW, I never did get a worldwide night free cert. Nor did my wife. These seemed common from what I last read. Nothing here. Nadda. Gar nicht.

Regarding the free night certificate, you may want to look at this article. http://milestomemories.boardingarea.

First I called. Got 2K points. Then I called about the certificate. Was told I would get a call. Got no call, no points and no certificate. Then I sent a secure message. Got the same automated reply as shown in the above article. Still no call. Developing...

Thanks for the link. Will try this tonight.

I saw the "email" link on their page ... seemed the best way to contact them with no SM ability. Good to know that IS the way.

Email/SM is my preferred way too. Even better, I can be my wife as long as they aren't hearing my voice :).

So I emailed US Bank about my annual fee per the previous post. Received an automated response saying they'll get back with me within 15 days (someone from the "Office of the President" ... a Specialist). I'm probably not going to pay the fee unless something significant comes from this. I'll keep my wife's and do some light MS on that to raise some points. As an alternative to keeping mine, I'll apply for a business card. $60 fee and the same 40k annual bonus. And 85k + 12.5k for signing up. I'll shoot for this first, in case I'm denied and then will then rethink.

Double denied for Chase retention offers of any kind.

Called on my UA MPE card this evening. I never really used the card at all other than meeting spend for the bonus. Claimed I had reasons to use it coming up soon. Denied. Nothing offered. I canceled on the spot; my wife has a very mature card that we'll keep, and it makes no sense to keep 2. We do get enough benefits in the form of free bags if/when we fly coach, so we'll let it ride. Mine is now closed.

My original plan was to also close my almost-never-used Hyatt card. I did use it for one night at FTU DC and for the other night made use of last year's free night cert that was about to expire - whoopdee, I saved $99. For whatever reason, I'm not using Hyatt. Will look harder at them next time. But for now, I'll keep this one. Still time to change my mind. However, with the reports of Chase now denying new apps for ALL cards (UA, Hyatt, Marriott ... see other recent thread) to even mild churners, getting a new one later seems unlikely.

Could you please link the that thread? I couldn't find it after searching. Unless... :( :( :(

Sorry. Yeah, that thread really isn't anything that has to be there. In a nutshell, many reports of people being denied for NON-UR cards in recent weeks. Marriott, Hyatt, UA MPE. It seems that Chase is expanding their screening for max new card accounts to these applications, too.

A family member got approved for a Hyatt card pretty recently and so did some friends...so I would take these data points on cobranded cards with a grain of salt.

And I just helped a coworker and her husband each get a CSP card, and one Freedom card between them. But they had zero other new accounts in the last 2 years. So cards can be had, but probably NOT for anyone who's been more active.

Oh yeah...sorry for not clarifying but all of these guys had like 15+ HPs in last 2 years.
You're right, those reporting denials have been active. But the denial criteria is not HPs for Chase now. It's NEW CREDIT CARDS in the past 2 years. The cutoff is unclear to me (it may have been defined better by some), but it's something like 5-6 new card accounts in the last 2 years. Which takes away the credit bureau splitting of pulls ... they are scanning your full credit report for new accounts. At least for UR cards, but it's looking like the rules is expanding to include others.

If you're under 5-6 new cards in the last 2 years, go for it. I have to believe the number of folks "here" who are is fairly low. The non-UR card story is still developing, but I see enough that I won't try again for any Chase card for a long while. Too bad. I just sent them an SM explaining how their new policy is bad for loyal, long-time customer; this as I canceled my wife's CSP card (I still have one).

So anyone else get a ridiculously huge, wordy and somewhat confusing letter from U.S. Bank regarding their Club Carlson visa? Actually the letter is just two pages long and the rest of it is the T&Cs of the new card which I already had or at least had access to. Just got it today and they claim to have attempted to call me on September 15 but there was no record of that on my phone. At any rate, from what I can tell I have to call in to claim my e-certificate for any hotel in the world and the Heather Palmer that I am supposed to call doesn't answer her phone. What a pain this has been! I am keeping my card open. Now please give me my certificate. Why does this have to be so complicated. It isn't.

Has anyone found that the retention bonus value varies depending on how close you are to the annual renewal date of the card?

Did a round of retention this week. Chase Hyatt has been particularly stingy with offers. Picked up the card in June, 61 day retention, nothing, 5 month retention, nothing. Unlike the other banks, there are no retention specialists for Chase. The front-end reps are exceedingly happy to cancel your account for you.

chase had no love for me, however if you have any cards with thank you points, citi has been pretty liberally adding 1-2 points/$ for additional spend

I have never had a retention offer from Chase. Citi gave me on my TY Preferred earlier this year but had absolutely nothing for me a few weeks ago. Barclays has been the best for me. American Express was good a few years ago on but when I canceled my SPG recently they were happy to show me the door.

Amex gave me 7K SPG points to renew a couple of days ago. I didn't even bother in the last year with Chase. Have had lots of luck with Barclays and Citi. Not much with US Bank..
