Back in blighty we have passport pic machines in an unusually high number of locations, they are everywhere. I've noticed in the US it typically requires some dude in CVS or Walmart snapping a photo of you and printing it out.

My last 3 passports we decided to do ourselves, 2 US and 2 UK. We've done various combinations, including:

  • Scan/Copy of photo from a Walmart, printed at home when I needed 2 copies to send in and couldn't find the second (UK)
  • Photo against wall at home, and print out (US, UK)
Pretty easy way to save some cash and some time.

I used an app last time. I think it was ID PhotoPrint, but there are a bunch that all work the same. It looks like ID PhotoPrint now wants to charge you to mail you the pics, but when I did it (and it may still be able to do it, and if not, I'm sure other apps do), it created a 4x6 picture that had six 2x2 copies of my picture on it. I loaded it to walgreens.com and just had 1 copy of the 4x6 printed. Cost: ~$0.25. Cut out 2 of the 6 pictures and used those on my application. Also, I wanted to note that the app helps you position yourself to have the correct dimensions in the picture.
