If I cancel my award flight and get the miles redeposited into my account will the expiration date be counted from the date I originally used the miles or from the day of the redeposit?

If I cancel my award flight and get the miles redeposited into my account will the expiration date be counted from the date I originally used the miles or from the day of the redeposit?
In my experience that doesn't extend the expiration date at all (so original date). I'd post what airline you are referring to, though, in case that makes a difference.
