DTW to DPS 7/30

Looking for some help on an award flight. Have return flight but trying to get something better for outgoing and trying for a specific arrival date of 8/1.

1. What route are you looking for? DTW to DPS
2. What dates do you want to travel (mention how flexible you are)? 7/30 is preferred as want to arrive 8/1
3. Do you want to fly first, business, or coach? (maybe also "are you willing to fly coach for a positioning flight") Coach, unless Bus isn't much more
4. How many passengers? 2
5. How many points do you have, in which programs? AA (200k), UA (150k), Alaska (150k), Ultimate Rewards (>500k), Delta (400k), Starpoints (60k), Amex MR (50k), TY (70k)

I think your best bet is booking LAX-SYD or BNE-DPR on Virgin Australia with Delta miles. It's 40k + $5 every day of the week. It looks like Delta is pricing out the total award by adding thier domestic award onto that 40k. The flight leaves out of LAX at 10pm, so plenty of time to position yourself. On the 30th Delta has non stops from 20-25k, so a total of 60-65k. The day before they have non stops for 14.5k. Delta and spirit look like the only non stops to LAX. But the cheapest positioning flight would be southwest at 7-10k with one stop.

It looks like VA holds back all its biz space until a week before if you are looking to upgrade. Biz runs 80k.
