Cuba-ready credit card

If you've already been to Cuba, as I have, dealing with money is quite tricky. Since 2004, U.S. Dollars are not accepted in stores. Money can only be changed in Cuba and there are two currencies, one for tourists (Cuban convertible peso or CUC$) and the local peso. This system seems to be in transition with the two currencies to be eventually merged. Credit cards from the U.S. could not be used, so bringing cash and changing it was the only way to deal with money.

Evidently, there is a credit card you won't see on the blogs that is now available and is the first of its kind to be accepted in Cuba. It was released on June 14 by Stonegate Bank. The Stonegate Platinum World and World Elite Master Cards are chip and pin and will work at POS terminals in Cuba.

Anyone who wants to use this card in Cuba must also sign a document certifying they belong to one of the 12 categories of people whose purpose for travel is approved by the US DOT.
