If on the first try they still reject you call back again I have had cards approved on the third try.Try telling them you are willing to move credit over from another card(like this they dont have to approve more credit but just the card)it makes it easier to get approved.

Though keep in mind that chase business reon has been extremely tough recently, even telling people that "ms is not allowed".

Barclay Recon (866) 408-4064. Barclays overall is tough. Where you would get an automatic approval from Chase or Citi (i.e. approved automatically with no personal intervention) Barclays has much higher standards. There are lots of reports that you only get ONE recon shot at Barclays so make sure you have your story/reasons straight because they make note of it. Wish me luck, gotta call them tomorrow.

Chase has been cracking down on Ink applications. Myself and two friends tried applying with a legitimate business a few weeks ago and none of our applications were approved. I called recon 3 times and every time I got the same answer. My wife, on the other hand, applied in January with her SSN and was approved.

.

I applied for 75K Citi card and got the under review message and called in to recon 1-866-606-2961 (which had been reported to sometimes work best/faster). The analyst couldn't locate my app and finally came back and said it was in a different department. She conferenced me into that department (Hi there, I'm Sue w/Citi in S.D.). I got the dreaded :( $5K limit but with a cheery offer to move CL but they noted my $4K balance. Easily moved large part of CL from other card and I'm on my way.

Perhaps no need to go to the high powered credit analyst line first.

How much does history with a bank matter? I've had a Chase Freedom card for nearly six years. Over the course of this year I applied for a Marriott Rewards, Ink Bold, and Southwest. Got declined for SW, despite excellent credit score, but had success on the recon line. Had my story buttoned up, offered to move credit line off the Marriott, which is what they did. It was really helpful to read the forums beforehand to get prepared.

I think having the freedom card open for a few years helped too, but not really sure how much of a difference that makes. Does anyone know how that figures into the formula?

I just tried the 866-458-8805 number for BoA, and it was disconnected. However, the 1-866-505-7481 number from PedroNY worked fine for me and I got my approval! Perhaps the first post should be updated.

Capital One

Capital One doesn’t take customer initiated calls regarding application status until you have received an answer via mail. They also do not take customer initiated calls for credit line increases.

US Bank
800-947-1444 - reconsideration

800-685-7680 - reconsideration

Not sure where I found the above; I cut/pasted it into a file in Feb. 2013. So it may not be current....

I think I may have a printed and annotated copy with my hard-copy App-a-rama file and will edit the post if I do.

BTW, there is a school of thought that says it is sometimes wiser to wait and only call recon after a denial. I find this works best with Chase Bus card apps because Chase Bus recon is very tough and you may prompt a rejection for what might have been an approval, had you waited.

As for notoriously hard Club Carlson from US Bank, I followed TBB's lead (he blogged about his process) and called them 4-5 times until I finally got someone who would review it and I ultimately did get approved.

Another thank you, Elaine. I need to start recon with US Bank in a couple of days.

Just read that one of the tricks for a U.S Bank application is to use a different phone number as their ARS service checks the number of applications from your particular phone number. Sure wish I'd known that before I applied, I would have used my Google Voice or cell phone number.

I just had the strangest recon call ever. A few days ago I was approved for a Chase IHG card with only a $2K CL. I called in today to try to add an AU to another card to get 5K bonus miles and while I was at it asked for a CL increase to $10K on the IHG. CSR said it had to "push a button and one of three things will happen" but didn't elaborate and then said, "it went to pending." Ask for the recon number (instead of looking here) and when I called it was a promo line for "free" Las Vegas vacation. Turns out rep, pretty sure it wasn't me, said "800" instead of "888."

Got the right number and got a credit analyst who was very nice but grilled me a couple times on why I wanted the increase and then after putting me on hold came back and said, "you've applied for 5 credit cards in the last 3 months, why?" (I told her @Matt told me to but that didn't work:D). I repeated we're starting to travel a lot, switching from airlines miles to hotel miles, etc. and said I had no problem re-allocating current CL (Freedom, Sapphire, & UA Bus Exp.) if necessary. She came back and said, "we've extended you as much credit as we're able to at this time and so I've reallocated $8K from your Freedom." I yelped and said, "can't you please take it from the Sapphire (a sock drawer card for me) and she said--and here's the weird part "I wanted to equalize your lines and we just gave you an $8K increase on your Freedom two weeks ago." Not only did I not ask for that increase, I haven't been notified of it and I haven't even been using the Freedom card. How strange is that???

She did go on to tell me when I asked that the total combined lines I now had, 75% of my stated income--how's that for a nice data point--were my maximum. I also asked about re-allocating business lines to personal and she said it could be done but that preferred to do personal to personal first. Maybe you all knew this but I didn't!

So today my husband applied for 3 new cards (Amex, Chase, Barclays). His last applications were in February with USBank. The Amex card was not instantly approved, and there was a phone number he was asked to call. He just called, and the rep told him that he can see that he applied for "other cards" recently. He said that they would have a decision by Monday. This is the Amex Blue Cash card. It was the second one applied for within minutes. The third was the Chase Freedom & he got instant approval (even though he currently has 5 chase cards). The Barclay was a pending also & they aren't open right now. UGH!

I applied for one Amex card (I got an offer in the mail for $250 bonus) & got instant approval.

Re: Rewards Inquiry

Dear ,

Thank you for taking the time to recontact Chase in
regards to the enrollment promotion currently associated
with your Chase Freedom account ending in XXXX.

First, I would like to apologize for the delay in my
response to your email inquiry listed below.

With the continual changes and promotional offers for many
credit card products we at Chase will always consider
allowing the newest promotion to be applied to any
qualified accounts that were opened within the previous 90
days of the offer.

Because your account has been opened for less than 90
days, I am pleased to advise that I did add 10,000 bonus
rewards to the account number noted above so that it
receives a total of 20,000 bonus rewards for an enrollment
bonus.
You will see this rewards adjustment listed on
your upcoming September 2014 statement. This adjustment is
available for redemption now.

Mr. , I appreciate this opportunity to provide you
with information about your account and I thank you for
making Chase your card of choice. If you have any further
questions, please contact us by phone using the phone
number listed below or reply using the Secure Message
Center.

Thank you,

Updates/Corrections to the B of A Recon info:

1-866-458-8805 - non-working line
1-866-865-7843 - Spanish line - not sure if it is working; I don't speak Spanish
1-866-505-7481 - non-working line
1-888-231-6262 - answered with "Fraud Dept" - a kind CSR looked up the app and transferred me to 1 800 354 0401 in Credit. Rep there said no decision had been made as yet, but he could "take ownership" of the decision.

So if you need B of A recon, try 1 800 354 0401 first.

Update - a friend reported top me that 1-866-865-7843 is working. I expect both English and Spanish speakers can get help there.

Same experience here, 800 354 0401 worked for me.

In the past if I didn't get instant approval, I always called immediately, but in my experience, if I don't call or forget to call reconsideration, it is often approved in 2-6 business days.

On the other hand I have called reconsideration before (not necessarily immediately) and on occasion been rejected for mostly Chase business products. I've also called after rejected and gotten approvals.

This seems to suggest that that initial call doesn't necessarily help as much as you think, and that if it does, a call later can be as good as a call earlier. Have any of you altered how you approach reconsideration based on your experience? For me, less time on the phone is good overall.
