Bank of America product change questions

I have recently PCed an Alaska Visa card (w/ $75 annual fee) to BoA Better Rewards Balance. The rep said the new card should be mailed out in 2 - 4 weeks, and then the product change will be completed by then. While I am still waiting for the new card to come, the annual fee is posted today.

1. Do I need to call BoA to waive the annual fee charge? Or do you think it will be reversed when the new card is activated?

2. Since Better Rewards Blanace card has no annual fee, would this PC automatically change the annual fee to zero? Or do I have to make a request for that?

Call and request, they will tell you if you need to wait or if they can process the AF refund immediately, either way it cannot hurt :)

@Pat about the PC, did your BoA Alaska card have to be 1 year old to be eligible? I'm wondering about PC'ing down to the AAA card, if that's even possible... TIA!

I called to PC very close to 1 year mark, so I am not sure whether you can PC that earlier.

Called and the specialist says the annual fee should be reversed before next statement is generated. If not, she can help me fix it by then. Will wait and see.

I called today to switch some credit line from my old Alaska card to my new one and PC the latter to a Better Balance Rewards. Was told both actions would require a hard pull. The CSR also said the PC would take 6 to 8 weeks so the annual fee (which posted a couple of weeks ago) would need to be paid. I ended up canceling the old card. Hopefully next time I apply for the Alaska card I will get a similarly generous credit line to replace it.

I was only able to PC to the Travel Rewards card... no-fee cards with no foreign transaction fees are rare, will probably bring it along as a backup when travelling.

We've approved you for a $20K CL on your new AS Signature Visa.. To do this we've transferred $7K CL from your [stupid] Accolades card."

Is there some sort of CL one needs to be give to get the Signature? Why didn't they just give me $13K CL on the AS? I know I've read about reallocation with BofA/FIA-- are they even servicing these anymore? but can't recall. Can I close my BofA Accolades (or any other BofA card) and reallocate the CL to AS Signature?

I currently have BoA Cash Rewards and Travel Rewards which are going to turn 1 shortly. No AF's (IIRC - but honestly don't care for them...was offered lucrative signup bonuses with easy spend requirements). Can I switch them to more lucrative cards without any HP's?

$5K for the Signature card. You don't get the 25K miles if you don't get the $5K CL.

If you're churning these in multiples with the 2BM/3BM method (as you probably should), I would PC them to the Better Balance card and reduce the CL to $1K or so after a year and game them for $100/year in CB each.

I have no direct experience with this, but I'm told BoA doesn't care how many of their cards you hold.

I just recently (2 nights ago) product changed from the Cash Rewards to the Better Balance Rewards. I had the card for less than 3 months

Is it possible to then continuously churn and PC to have a large number of Better Balance Rewards? Could you scale it and earn 50,000 a year from the BBR?

$50,000 would require over 400 active BBR cards. I have to believe that they would shut you down well before that. I personally have 4 cards and my wife has 3. I plan on getting more via product changes. When I have tried to PC, the rep has never asked about my other open BBR cards.

Correct. In the short term, I think the best you could do individually is 10 or 12. Best thing is that you can completely automate the process: order a $1 amazon GC every month, set the card to auto pay the balance, preferably from the same BoA bank account that you would deposit the earnings into.

What number are you guys calling to product change? I have an Alaska I want to PC to cash rewards. I called the number on the back of the card (interestingly, it shows up as "Seafirst Bank" on my 4.4 default dialer. They said I could downgrade to lesser Alaska co branded card, which I declined. Maybe that retention number will only help save Alaska customers and doesn't have incentive to move me to non cobranded.

What does it take to satisfy the minimum requirements for the BBR card? If you had a 0 balance can you pay $1 to count as paying more than minimum? If you had a $5 balance can you pay $5 or do you have to pay more?

I buy a $1 Amazon GC each month and pay the $1 balance after the statement cuts each month. Paying in full qualifies as paying "more than the minimum".

BTW, has anyone been able to convert cards to the BBR card recently? I've called dozens of times recently and get shot down everytime.
Most recent successful PC to BBR was 3 months ago -- been denied multiple times since then.

Read on a blog that after 5-6 calls someone was able to PC to BBR. (not sure if I can post the link to blog here, hence not posting it).
