Amex downgrade

Wondering what the best options were for downgrading Amex Gold card to keep MR points. I have had it for 11months now with minimal spend (only to meet bonus and for amex offers). I called but no retention offer.

I asked if I could get the Everyday Preferred and they said it'd be a new application - any idea why?

Only other Amex is OBC. Can you have OBC and Everyday Preferred?

Gold is a Charge card while Everday preferred is a credit card. You can't product change a charge card to a credit card or vise versa. Amex has a 4 credit card max limit. So yes you can have OBC and EDP.

If you don't want to pay the annual fee $95 for the Everyday Preferred you could get the Everyday no annual fee card.
