I have been reading quite a bit about this lately and wanted to investigate. Once and only once, my wife and I got Star Alliance Gold status which was great, especially when we flew economy as we got priority boarding and lounge access, not to mention free baggage.
Right now, having no status, I can't get any sort of matching offers or challenges.
Here's my main question: if you are generally able to use point and/or miles to book flights, how do you ever attain status? Do I need to, want to?
