So I went online to book my off-peak AA award to Asia, and was going to try the HA route via HNL then onward to Japan or Korea. I couldn't find any availability, and it was always wide open before. I was surprised so looked on FT and found that flying via HA to HNL from the USA is no longer allowed, but furthermore continuing onward to Asia is now two awards.
Some places mentioned the first part, but apparently the latter part was not announced. I'm way bummed about this. Although I know I've heard HA is nothing special, I thought it would be a cool flight to add to my record and try, and I love Hawaii and it was pretty easy to get a 12 hour layover when flying through there to show up on AA.com in the past. Oh well, I'll try the JAL 787 I guess instead, but makes me want to try the Island Hopper soon too before that goes away.
