Just a quick question, if I book J now on a one world partner with AA do I have to pay any fees to switch to F, if F opens?

I can confirm this. I recently booked a business class partner awards flight through AA and later upgraded to first class for no fee when there was availability. They do charge for downgrades -_-'

Some of the bloggers affirm this as well.

"You can upgrade your award type to a higher class of service without paying a change fee"

"American doesn't charge this if you're upgrading your travel, for example from business class to first class"

Due apologies as I am traveling and so don't check quite as much as normal when I am at home.

A little tough for me, as I can do just about any award change for free as EXP, but you can upclass an award for free generally with AA (obviously paying the mileage difference), with the normal caveats of not changing origin or destination or something else that creates a different fee.

Thanks all, really appreciate the responses as always! I am taking the father to the west coast. His only premium international experience is United F in the '90s. I'd like for him to get up to speed on YVR-JFK courtesy of our friends over at Cathay. J seats are open, but do hope F opens last minute.
