Year To Date SPG Spend & Office Max Will Help Meet My Goal

Four months ago, I asked if I should continue to spend money on my American Express Starwood Preferred Guest card for SPG Gold status.

Here is my performance through October

American Express

I have spent $22,650 and need just $7350 from now to the end of the year. I can shave off $3000 from Amazon Payments and the rest I plan to gift card churn.

Frequent Miler is the only blogger that I know that has blogged about the latest changes to the Open Savings and Office Max will no longer be part of the program effective January 1, 2014.

Because of that and Office Max’s 5 SKU restriction on the gift card type, I will buy as many Nordstrom gift cards as I can and sell them to get my spend up.

  • Have you gotten points through any shopping portals from buying gift cards through OfficeMax? It looks like from GCG that there are a few GC resellers paying 89% for Nordstroms so without a portal bonus you are essentially breakeven if you get a cash back (10% discount + 1 MR point vs. 89% cash back for a check or 93.5% for Amazon credits)

    • Nope, I’ve never received any bonuses from office max + gift cards. I’m buying up the cards to break even for cheap and easy SPG points
