Workplace Resources

I am lucky to be working at a place with a very efficient mail room. There have been a few times where I have thought about mailing all of the gift cards I order to the office because then I would be able to flip the cards for cash faster.

In addition, because of the volume of outbound packages, there is discounted shipping for all employees.

When I tried reselling Starbucks Keurig pods from Office Max, I wound up losing a decent amount of money because of the shipping for Fulfillment by Amazon.

If I was more of a risk taker, I would consider sending everything to the office and flip things around, but I like my employer, a lot. I never want to over use the workplace services because that smells like a disaster. Why? Because it is grounds for dismissal for abusing company time and resources even if I do pay for the shipping.

If I ever jump back into the Fulfillment By Amazon, I think I would open up the AMEX Business Gold Rewards card for the 2x Membership Rewards on shipping.

Do any of you use any of the fringe benefits at the office? Am I too cautious?

  • The most I do is have AmEx gift cards delivered to my office. I would guess my co-workers are curious why the UPS guy comes with several envelopes a few times a week but no one has said anything.

    • Would you consider doing more MS’ing to the office?

I would consider doing more MS’ing if the UPS guy goes to you, as my job we have clerks that work for the company who deliver our mail/packages

  • Seeing that you live in NYC, have you give those Amazon lockers a try? Works great and there are multiple locations!

    • I never tried it, but have seen it nearly everywhere! Do you know if can receive packages in it shipped from places other than from Amazon?

  • It only works for Amazon products, but I know USPS has GoPost (similar to Amazon Locker). The only problem is there are only 2 locations in the city (one near Canal St. and one near Grand Central) and only USPS packages can be received.

    • Thanks, I didn’t know about that! That’s good to know I’ll have to research it some more
