How To Avoid Extra Scrutiny At CVS

I’ve been frequenting a CVS in Manhattan where they have a decent inventory of PayPal cash cards. I typically buy $500 each time and on occasion do $1000 at the self checkout. The self checkout is annoying because every time a card of $500 is run up, a cashier needs to scan their ID badge. I don’t know what the minimum would cause the register to need a cashier.

The cashier scans their ID to verify you want $500 on the prepaid card and at the end of checkout to verify you are the owner of the credit card. This process is quite slow, but is now my preferred method as I just recently found out because the other day I walked into the CVS and saw a cashier was behind the counter. I purchased 2 $500 denominated Paypal cards and she scanned my driver’s license. I am not a fan of having my license scanned and will now avoid this method of purchasing prepaid cards.

  • If you scan $499 on each, the cashier will not need your driver’s license. The ID requirement kicks in at $1000.

    • Yeah, 1k was the trigger for DL. If just 500 was purchased, same as self checkout experience would be…
