Gift Card Churning – Unexpected Attitude

Oftentimes gift card churning and upgrading gift cards are situations where ‘your mileage may vary.’ I have successfully upgraded my Sears gift card at Kmart a couple of times. This time I tried to increase the scale into a couple hundred dollars. I always purchase something to go along with the gift card upgrade because it  would place the transaction more along the lines of a ‘normal’ one. For this occurrence, I to Kmart at a later time instead of lunch time. The night cashiers were on point with the store policy, but they gave me plenty of attitude saying that I can not upgrade gift cards almost to the point of belittling me as if everyone knew you were not supposed to do that.

After their speech, I just played along the lines of sorry I did not know that was the policy and apologized and said I did not want the gift cards and to just ring up the chocolates that I had in my hand. It was a little unexpected that I would face an attitude like that, but I now know that the night shift is more strict.

I could have said I have done it plenty of times before, but I did not want that store’s management to retrain all of their cashiers just so that I can have the satisfaction of success that one time. While I was disappointed with that one outcome, I am in this for the long run.
