Changes To My First US Airways Redemption

I was so excited to book my first award, that I should have told the agent to place the award on a 72 hour hold. After booking, I showed my friend and asked me how I planned to travel from Hong Kong to Tokyo. I told him that I would redeem a flight using Avios to fly on Cathay Pacific.

Here is my original routing:

Modified route:

US Airways

He suggested it be a layover in Hong Kong and destination in Tokyo and that I wouldn’t need to redeem using Avios. I looked up NRT and could not find any availability. Then he advised me to look at Haneda, and there is one seat in business class left on All Nippon Airways. Fortunately, HND is a co-terminal with NRT and this is a valid US Airways award redemption route. This will now cost me an extra $150 to cancel my original booking, then rebook.

After all this, I should have had an extra pair of eyes look over the itinerary. My friend says his girlfriend is the most knowledgeable one between the two of them, but I don’t believe him for a second. The wealth of information he possesses is phenomenal.
