American Express Business Rewards Gold Changes How You Earn

Milecards was the first to report that American Express has changed the way you earn your Membership Rewards using your Business Rewards Gold card.

There’s a few changes, but I want to highlight one specific area. With the latest change to go into effect in 2015, you will be able to select 1 category to earn 3x instead of the current 3x, airfare.

The eligible categories for the 3x:

  • Airfare purchased directly from airlines
  • Purchases for advertising
  • Gas Station
  • Shipping
  • Computer hardware, software, and cloud computing from select providers

I had a quick post about this card being great for manufactured spenders. I also designed a high efficiency method for #milesmadness using Newegg for free after rebates (the password is CharlieTangoPapa2)

If you’re not interested in running the Python script, you can check out my side project site: Chasing Mall Points and there’s a page specifically for Newegg free after rebate items.

  • There is a grocery store they code as a gas station in my area that sells GCs with CC… Not quite as lucrative as a 5x card but could still be decent.

      • That’s what I was thinking… Do you know if there is going to be a yearly limit on rewards spending?

        • Yep, there’s a yearly limit, it’s 100k per category then 1 point for every dollar spent.
