Reason for choosing:

We had a quick 43 hours in Hong Kong to celebrate our anniversary in November, 2014, and to visit friends. We hadn’t spent much time on the Kowloon side in our previous trips (having stayed at the JW Marriott Hong Kong), so we thought it might be nice to try out the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui.  We also found a really good points and cash rate (7,500 + $75 $100).

Lobby and Check in/Check Out Experience

Lobby

Both check-in and check out occurred in the lounge on the 23^rd floor. Both were very efficient.  Even though we were checking in just after they closed the drinks and canapés, they offered us each a drink.

Naturally, with drinks in hand, we decided to stay in the lounge to see the Hong Kong symphony of lights. The below video isn’t from our most recent trip, but, for those of you who may never have seen it, here’s an idea:

Where the hotel stood out

There isn’t a whole lot that we didn’t enjoy about the hotel, but perhaps the best part was the Handyphone. Having a mobile with data and voice pretty much free of charge and with local information was great as we explored new areas to us.

The lounge had great views as well, although the food and beverages were consistent with our experiences at other North Asian Hyatts (although I’d say it was more on the level of a Grand Hyatt than a Regency Hyatt).

We had used a suite upgrade, so we enjoyed that as well. I will say that the suite was very similar to that which we had at the Hyatt on the Bund in Shanghai.

Where the hotel fell a little short

Not really a shortcoming but the lobby was not on the ground level. Rather, one had to take one set of elevators to the lobby, then walk by the front desk to a second set of elevators to get to the rooms. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but in a city that one does quite a bit of walking, a few extra steps make a difference.

Also, the wireless internet was only available in four hour increments.

Wrapping Up

Overall the Hyatt Regency Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui was a great place to stay.  Nice location being in the middle of things especially if one likes to shop.  And having a working phone with GPS was awesome.
