Hyatt Zilara Cancun: Arrival Experience and Room

Hyatt Zilara Cancun, Mexico for a long weekend

Part One: Hyatt Zilara Arrival Experience and Room
Part Two: Hotel Amenities
Part Three: Restaurants and Chef’s Table

Hyatt Zilara Hotel Transfer

Arriving into Cancun, I was struck by how new the airport looked and smelled. The one thing that kept ringing the bell in the back of my mind though, was the fact that the hotel hadn’t given us any details about where to find the driver. There were a ton of folks that wanted to help and give us a ride to the hotel (for a fee, of course). We looked around for a while, but saw no signage at all. Finally, I agreed to pay $20 per person for the drive to the hotel. Ironically, right as we were leaving–mind you this was about 20-30 minutes after we landed–we saw a Hyatt Zilara SUV driving into the airport grounds. Our choice had been made at that point.

Cancun, Air Margaritaville

Luckily, there is an Air Margaritaville, if you want to grab a beverage to consider your airport transfer options.

The drive to the hotel took about 20 minutes.

We were welcomed from the moment the car drove up.  Everyone was very helpful and offered to store our bags if the room wasn’t ready. As we only had our carry-on we decided to keep our bags and find out for ourselves if the room was ready.

The Arrivals lounge for Hyatt Diamonds was closed so they had us check in at the normal check-in desks.

Gina, who checked us in (and out) was very helpful.  She made sure that we had our dinner reservations and knew where everything was located.

They upgraded us to a (insert name of room) room.  It was more then enough room for the couple nights.

The tub took up quite a bit of room though.

The bed was comfortable.

The bathroom had a shower with a view and a sink. In the room, as well as a another outside of the conventional bathroom area.

There was the closet, that included a safe, however, nothing special there.

And since it was an all inclusive the mini bar fridge was fully stocked.  Though they need to upgrade the snacks.

While the full liquor bottles were a nice touch, I think I might have liked a bit higher shelf — I tend to drink Appleton’s rum, for example.

There was also a nespresso, however we could never find any of the pods.

Pro Tip: Do make sure you call for turn down.  We forgot one night and missed out.

Conclusion – Hyatt Zilara Cancun Room

Overall, we felt the room was fantastic. The view was nice, the bed was comfortable. The pillows were good, and further bolstered by the fact that they provide additional pillows based on your desire (e.g. firm, soft, relaxing, etc.) at check-in.

  1. In addition the staff is amazing, the five restaurants and the food are all amazing, the 24 hour room service is outstanding the beverages are awesome, the cabanas at the beach and pools are wonderful and the nightly shows are incredible. Our fourth time here and we are here right now for four more days and already want to come back in six months!

  2. Hope you enjoyed your “(insert name of room) room”! 🙂

Agree that the snacks in the room need to be upgraded. Pretty lame. And it would be nice if the liquor were a step up the shelf, but that’s probably not going to happen. At least it’s easy enough to go downstairs and get whatever top-shelf stuff you want.

      • Everyone, I believe. While there are different wrist band colors, I don’t think status impacts what alcohol you have access to. I’m not a big drinker, so I can’t speak to the selection of top-shelf stuff. But I seem to recall some pretty good choices. Maybe Trevor or somebody else can give examples or comment further.

        • Right, so there are no longer different wrist band colors, so I’m not even sure if there’s any limitation. The key however is that you want to specifically request the type of liquor you’d like in your beverage. For example, when I ordered a banana daquiri, I specifically asked for it with Appleton rum (because I know Appleton to be an enjoyable taste, at least to me). They also had Grey Goose Vodka, to give you an idea of the range of their top shelf.

  3. We had a blast this year there, the part of the room I hate is the bathroom window over the bed, if you turn that on at night, it lights up the main room. The food was very good, but we didn’t get into Asiana.(I think that is what it is called)

  4. Did you pay for the stay with points or cash? I’ve looked into the Hyall inclusives, but getting to them is always expensive and awards are non-existent.

      • Good use of the free nights. I think the all-inclusives are all 25k/night for the base room. I don’t think the annual free night works at the all-inclusives.

    • I paid in points – I found 3 nights (and only 3 consecutive nights) during one of their low times… According to the staff, even low season, they are at 80% or so capacity, because that is when the owners come.. (it is, or was a timeshare). I think still, your best bet for space may be in the Aug-Oct time frame, you just risk hurricane season.
