Nationwide Visa Buxx vs US Bank Visa Buxx

In the last couple of months that I have been using the Nationwide Visa Buxx, I have been visiting WholeFoods for cash back then depositing the cash and repeating the cycle. However, I only do this once a week. I may need to incorporate additional use like withdrawing from an ATM to churn more dollars into and out of the card to generate more Ultimate Rewards points using my Freedom. Here are my pros and cons for both Nationwide Visa Buxx and US Bank Visa Buxx from my viewpoint:

Pros to Nationwide Visa Buxx:

  • Cash back at participating vendors from purchases
  • Can use your own SS# when signing up initially
  • Automatic loads after a balance threshold
  • Free ATM use from Allpoint ATM’s

ATM Usage

There is no fee for using your Card at Nationwide Bank or Allpoint ATMs.  If you use your Card at other ATMs, including those displaying the Visa/Plus logos, there is a $1.00 fee, and the ATM terminal owner may charge additional fees and “surcharge” for ATM transactions.

There are rumors floating that even using at the Allpoint ATM that fees are charged, but calling Nationwide would have the fee removed. However, there is this conflicting statement as well on ATM usage:

Schedule of Fees and Charges

Visa/Plus Network ATM cash withdrawal and balance inquiry: $1.00 per transaction (the terminal owner may charge additional fees and “surcharges” for ATM transactions)

Cons to Nationwide Visa Buxx:
  • $800 weekly purchase limit
  • $200 weekly (7 days) withdrawal limit this includes cashback
  • Confusing terms and conditions regarding ATM withdrawals
  • $1000 max value
Pros to US Bank:
  • Load limits higher, $517.50 (Nationwide is $500)
  • $2000 max value
  • Not sure on max purchase per week, but I can confirm I have done $1000 in a transaction and went through successfully
Cons to US Bank:
  • No cash back
  • Have to have a SS# that is not your own for the initial creation
