In the name of research

I was reading on a different blog called Million Mile Secrets and came across this article “Vanilla Reloads at Walgreens?”. Because of this, I had to research and see for myself.

I went to 2 different Duane Reade’s (now owned by Walgreens) and 1 Walgreen’s looking for the reload card. Only the official Walgreens have it. But like Million Mile Secrets stated, this is a YMMV — Your Mileage May Vary.

I believe that all Walgreens and Duane Reade’s will stock it at some point or another because all of the Visa prepaid gift cards are Vanilla.

What’s the big deal with Vanilla Reloads? This article from Frequent Miler called “Vanilla Reloadables” is why they’re so valuable. Basically, what you do is get your highest percent reward card and go to a location that sells the reloadables and use your credit card. Because of the Chase Ink cards have 5% back at office supply stores and sells them (only Office Depot) you’d want to go there and maximize your earnings.

Since Walgreens sells these cards, unfortunately, the Ink will only net 1 point per dollar. However, if you have the American Express HHonors card, you can get 6 points per dollar.

Points that really add up

Earn 6 Hilton HHonors Bonus Points for every dollar of eligible purchases: at any participating property within the Hilton HHonors portfolio of brands, at U.S. stand-alone supermarkets, at select major drugstores, on gasoline at U.S. stand-alone gas stations, for U.S. wireless and home telephone, cable TV and satellite TV service. You will receive 3 HHonors Bonus Points for each dollar of other eligible purchases.

Bank of America has a rewards card at 3x the points for drug store purchases. My Chase Amazon has 2x.

Do you know of any credit cards that provide more valuable rewards?
