Gift Card Churning – Is This Another Scummy Move?

I posed an open question on fractional pennies if that was a scummy move.

In the process of researching, I did a click-through of a portal where I made a mistake and caused my orders to not process.

A few days later, I was credited 10x points without making the purchase. I replicated it a couple of times to verify and each time I was credited the points.

In fact, I think this move would credit to the portal spend bonuses like the last American Airlines Feel The Love Promo.

To me, this move is clearer and think it’s too scummy to continue for the free points. I feel like this one is definite grounds for termination of the programs.

What do you think?

And sorry, I won’t answer further questions about the steps or portal as it’s ripe for abuse and would absolutely kill online MS as a whole.

  • You have to ask if this is scummy? You’ve reached a new level of scumbaggery chasing points with this one. Congrats. Enjoy the free flights and upgrades, courtesy of theft.

      • Obviously he didn’t.

This would definitely be “scummy” and I’m glad that OP is not releasing any info.

    • I know it’s scummy, and that’s why I don’t do it… I was asking you, as a reader if it’s scummy.

  • How would it kill MS as a whole?

  • I read about someone doing this with Nordstrom on a MUCH bigger scale and ended up getting prosecuted for fraud. Not just scummy, but illegal.

  • I think you should notify whoever is responsible and make them aware fo this so they can patch this.

    • I don’t know what other vendors this affects, could be more than the one I tested.

      • Well, if you want to not to be a scumbag, you need to report the error. That’s like seeing your neighbor’s back door open and knowing anyone could walk in and help themselves. You could be the low life who keeps pretends not to notice or the responsible neighbor who lets someone know there’s a problem.

        Which are you?

  • I noticed this error in their system as well after an order I placed was cancelled, but did not exploit it. This just felt like theft to me. I did, however, continue to place legitimate paid-for orders of actual merchandise at the excellent rewards level. If you’re talking about what I think you’re talking about, it’s really too bad the party ended for everyone, even those of us who were actually purchasing a good amount of stuff from this company, encouraged by the excellent points reward.

Incidentally, this company’s internal computer systems are so screwed up that for the few products I decided to return, I had to really struggle to get a refund of any kind. They regularly defraud their customers out of cash for returned merchandise, so if someone was indeed exploiting this, I guess it is a little karmic payback.

    • Luckily, I haven’t experienced their returns process.

Fortunately, if we are on the same wave length which it appears we are, the vendor is available on other portals
