Citi AAdvantage Targeted Offer

Citi is pushing hard promoting American Airlines. On my seldom used Citi Visa AAdvantage card, I have been targeted to earn two one day lounge passes for spending $600 in a department store, restaurant, gas, or grocery store. They are making it way too easy for some lounge passes.

Have you been targeted recently? What would you earn for the spend bonus? Personally, I’d rather get a multiplier bonus on my spend.

  • Ooh… you could have high-sodium snack mix and soft drinks from the bartender!

Got both 1.2 miles for all spending on both USAir cards Jul 1 – Aug 31, plus 5K bonus for $500 spend in July, August, and September. The latter only applies to one card; my wife got the 15K bonus back in January. We’re only going to put spending on my card.

I’m torn about whether I call them for a retention offer to waive the annual fee. We both get 10K bonuses. We used both Companion Passes, and will probably use them both again. And the fact that Barclays CSRs aren’t pushovers like Citibank’s are makes me a tiny bit nervous.

  • I’m tempted to go for this then sell them on Ebay. I figure if you can clear around $25 per pass after fees etc. (seems reasonable from my quick look) you’re getting a little over 8% cash back, which beats the 5% from Amex Blue (old).

    • Agreed! Such a low barrier and many categories. For me, I was thinking of going to A&P and buying 2x variable Mastercards @ $5.95/card to hit the spend requirements

  • CTP: I’m a sucker for citi’s offers, though i only get about 2 a year. If it’s more convenient, T@rget should count too right? If you want to save on the fees you can also deposit $800 to AXP 4 T@rget then cash out. Assuming it’s the first withdrawal of the month you can get the first $400 withdrawn from atm free, the second withdrawn for $3, and the original load fee is $3 = $6 total

    • That’s a fantastic deal & idea! I’m going to need to find one of those cards and the store being classified as a grocery store

  • They don’t love me as much – my offer was for $1250 spend.
