Hello! Just wanted to inform people that Hertz is offering rentals for $15/day (compact car) on weekends through June 15th. You can read about the details from Deals We Like here. The short version is, use RQ codeĀ FRDM and any rental between Thursday and Monday at noon is $15/day. Outside of those dates it’s the regular rates but you can combine everything into one reservation. Unlike the recent Avis deal, this one is offered to all (and requires no gaming) and of course you can always say “pay later” and not risk anything. I just booked a car for one day for my upcoming trip to Las Vegas, should come in handy for getting off the strip. Enjoy!
Alitalia’s Confusing and Not so Friendly Rules for Infant Travel
Update: As of 6/1/2013, I checked Alitalia’s website (which looks updated), and it looks like you’re allowed to buy a seat for an infant now. That’s great news for those who want to do so. You still HAVE to buy a seat for long-haul business class, so that’s not so good news. I’m still sour on the entire program, but if you need to fly Alitalia, at least their policies more or less reflect 21st century thinking. They still aren’t super infant-friendly but they no longer contradict themselves!
My wife and I are trying to take a trip with our (then) 6 month infant this summer. I detailed our use of Delta Skymiles to book two business class award tickets here. I also paid for and received a paper ticket for our infant, since you need to pay for one for infant travel internationally.I thought everything was all set, until I called Alitalia to select our seats. Turns out they have a new infant policy. I’ll detail it here, then detail the frustrations and headaches it’s caused for us.
Pretty Good Deal: AMEX Business Rewards Gold 50K Membership Rewards points after $5000 spend in 3 months
AMEX often runs temporary sign up bonuses on their cards. Currently, they are offering 50,000 Membership Rewards points if you sing up for the AMEX Business Rewards Gold card using this link. It’s a pretty good deal, but the high minimum spending requirement ($5000 in 3 months) keeps it from being a great one. A sign up bonus like this probably prompts two questions:
First Flight with an Infant: Georgetown, the Smithsonian, Cherry Blossom Festival, and Brabo Tasting Room
First Flight with an Infant: Hopes and Fears
First Flight with an Infant: Preparation and Planning
First Flight with an Infant: A Quick and Uneventful Hop from BOS to DCA
First Flight with an Infant: Tyson’s Corner, Dairy Godmother, and Mount Vernon
First Flight with an Infant: AMEX Platinum Makes the Flight Home Easier
After the day of the wedding, we hit a lot of stuff over the next two days. On Sunday we went to Georgetown for cupcakes with the baby, then a family lunch for the wedding, then the Smithsonian’s Air and Space Museum, then our friend’s house for dinner. Then my parents met up with us to see the cherry blossoms on Monday, after which we went to the Smithsonian again, and finally we went to dinner with our friends without baby M for our last night in DC. It was a whirlwind trip, and all three of us were exhausted by the end of it!
Real Life Award Booking: Getting to Taipei on Oneworld
I recently just helped a client book a one way ticket for his family of four (two adults, one 2+ child, and one infant in arms) from Taipei, Taiwan to the East Coast all in first class. It’s an itinerary that seems to be impossible when you try on aa.com but with a little bit of work it’s easily doable. Even though the client only booked a one way award, I’m going to show you how to do this as a round trip.
